Emberfall Saga
★★★★☆ 4.4
Emberfall Saga is a proper role-playing game that doesn't treat mobile players as second-class. The story follows a band of exiles, and the writing has enough wit to keep you reading between fights. Combat is turn-based and tactical, with positioning and status effects doing a lot of heavy lifting.
Party building is where most of your time goes. Each character has a distinct role, and swapping members changes your whole approach to a boss. We liked that respeccing is cheap, so experimenting never feels punishing.
The downside is a slow start; the first hour is a lot of tutorials. Push through it and you get a rich RPG that holds up for dozens of hours. Just don't expect a quick pick-up-and-play session.
What we liked
- Writing with actual personality
- Tactical turn-based fights
- Flexible, forgiving party building
