Five mobile strategy games that fit a coffee break
People assume strategy games need long sessions, but plenty are built around five-minute bites. These are the ones I actually reach for when I've got a short break and no patience for a loading screen.
The key traits I look for are fast restarts, clear goals and runs that pause cleanly. If a game punishes you for putting it down mid-match, it fails the commute test immediately.
I also value games that save instantly. Few things are worse than losing progress because your train arrived. A good mobile strategy game assumes you'll be interrupted and handles it gracefully.
None of this is about dumbing down the genre. The best short-session games pack real decisions into a tiny window. That's harder to design than a sprawling campaign, and I respect the ones that pull it off.
